This daylily boasts the heaviest texture and thickest substance of any that has ever bloomed at Mercers' Garden.
The unique texture and rare orange-tan and rose-rust colors make this is one a truly different beast in any garden. It's perfect for some landscape color schemes. We like it posed against iron-ore-rich stones near the koi pond. And it looks awesome hovering above a pine needle mulch. Soul of Rust is able to bloom better than most in shade. The flower color stands up nicely to full sun, too. As parents go, this one isn't especially easy, but we do have a few heavy-textured seedlings from it. We're trying to use its offspring to continue the line, but fertility is low among most of them. Grows fairly well as far south as Ocala, Fla., but is at its best in the North. |
